Hi

I have a group of 10 adult marbled newts, 6 males and 4 females, the females are swollen with eggs and the males are all fully crested, but I have not seen them show any signs of mating rituals and the females have not laid a single egg! My alpine newts are constantly courting and laying eggs every day. Is this normal or is it the fact that i have them kep outside (Temp is in region of 9 degrees centigrade). therefore will warmer weather set them off??? Or is this species sometimes difficult to breed? Is there a particular water PH? weed, etc they require?

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
