Hello. I'm always horrible at these so don't mind if I ramble. I'm from Wisconsin and I love animals. I recently graduated with a degree in zoology and conservation and now I'm, well, now I'm not doing much

Anyway, I'm here because of an interest in axolotls. I found some for sale on another site and someone directed me here for more info on them. We have a 55 gallon that we are thinking about using for axolotls.

Although I'm relatively new to the world of amphibians, I do keep a variety of other fauna. My biggest interest is in snakes. I currently have 2 corn snakes which are my flagship snakes for a breeding operation, and eventually I am planning on expanding that into other rat snakes (new and old world), boas, and green tree pythons. Along with snakes I also share my house with 2 cats, 2 birds (a budgie and a green cheeked conure), a hedgehog, a dog (chinese crested....yes, mostly hairless, and mostly harmless), and a fish (betta).

So, nice to meet you all, and see you around.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
