Hello folks!

(This a few weeks late as the wife just pointed out to me I never bothered to drop a line here)

I have been keeping various reptiles and amphibians most of my life, but have been keeping axolotls an other caudates going on ten years now. Currently, I have Axolotls, Various Cynops sp., an interesting mix of amphiumas, 1.5 Pugs, 0.5 Chihuahuas, a matched set of teenagers and one 19 year old tomcat that refuses to die, but looks like he has. Oh, and a chunky Mexican wife that keeps me in line and controls my "critter budget" for me...

Professionally, my background is in electronics and weapon systems, however I have given up weapon systems for the guilt and stress free world of cardboard box manufacturing! I am now a lowly blue collar grease monkey and I kind of like it.

My technical training has led me to discover I enjoy water chemistry, lighting, and raising live foods almost as much as the critters I do all that stuff for. I am also a gardener, self proclaimed computer geek, avid mountain biker, and very very tired from trying to keep up with all the hobbies, interests and work...

Please excuse my occasional bouts of poor typing, grammar and spelling- that stint as a weapons engineer left a few minor bits of damage behind that messes with my keyboarding.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
