Hey everybody, I noticed that I needed to introduce myself. Well I'm currently in college working on a BS of Biology, with a minor in Chemistry, Communication and Physiology and am working to be excepted into Veterinary School Fall of 2011. I have had an affinity for animals all my life, especially herps and insects. I have had pets from a snapping turtle, eastern milk snake, tree frogs, spotted salamander, tropical fish, dogs to rabbits and guinea pigs. Everyone here has been extremely helpful, inviting and fun to talk to. I'm currently looking to start my collection of newts/salamanders and am trying to decide between the Mandarin Newt (Tylototriton shanjing) or the Marbled Newt (Triturus marmoratus). Looking forward to talking to and meeting everyone! Peace.:D

Welcome to the forums Socrates. You will find a lot of like minded people here with a wealth of experience and knowledge to share. The photo gallery is also another lovely site to visit. As a nerd myself (still am), i can assure you that nerdiness rules. ;)

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
