Hi, My name is Kate, from Citrus Heights, California. I have actually been on this site for quite some time, but for odd reasons, I haven't visited as much lately. Anyway, I am on a personal mission to teach myself as much as possible regarding newts, salamanders, sirens, caecilians, and whatever else I can think of (really, not too huge of a mission--HA!) My reason to do so is that I am a zookeeper at the Sacramento Zoo, primarily dealing with the reptiles and amphibians; I would like to increase the number of caudates on exhibits, but it is pretty hard to talk the superiors into it when I really don't have that much knowledge....Nice to meet you all---again!

Hi Kate,

A belated 'welcome to the site' then ;)

Good luck with your mission!

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
