Hi Caudata members,

My name is Mark, my 7yr old daughter is fascinated with reptiles and amphibians, so we decided to do some research and figured out we wanted to get a semi aquatic newt. We have put together an enclosure and are currently conditioning it. We will probably start out with a pair of Cynops Orientalis, this is not our first choice but the only species we can find locally here in Southern California. We would prefer C. Pyrrhogaster, but we may have to wait until Jen has some more available. We are looking forward to getting our new friends. I'll post some pics when we get them home.

Regards,

Mark & Alexa

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
