Hello everyone, Next saturday my family, and I are going to mexico for a week. I have two axolotls that are about 2-3in long. Is there anything that would keep them full for a whole week? Does anyone think I could just put lots of live tubifex worms in there aquarium, and maybe that would work?

Thanks, Bc

I would feed heavily for a couple of days before leaving and drop live black worms the day I left and mine always have a few live guppies swimming about.

If I have to leave town for a week they are going to be a bit hungrier than usual but they won't starve.

FYI - I would never leave a tank unattended for a week. If a filter goes out, the AC quits working, or an airline tube gets pinched..... so many issues can develop in a day or two.

Someone at least needs to come in and check on the tanks.

I think the tubifex worms would work out ok. You could just make sure to feed the axies good and full before you leave . They really don't need to eat every day. Or maybe you could just put them in the fridge to you return from Mexico.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
