LHRH Hormone

Reading through some material regarding amphibian breeding techniques, I regularily come across the use of a Hormone known as LHRH.

My question's are what is this hormone and its involvement within breeding amphibian's. Is it Legal/ ethical to use?

It seems the majority of Ceratophy's breeding accounts were influenced by the introduction of this Hormone, which leads me to wonder is it a viable solution to breeding certain animals or are there hidden levels to the use of LHRH that are not published along side the success stories.

I am using it, it is LHRHa (Luteinizing Hormone Releasing Hormone analogue)-it has been used in fish breeding a lot, but the use in amphibs is less doccumented-especially in salamanders. It is ethical especially when you are trying to produce a rare species in captivity-or in my case high numbers of same age eggs for research work. I am using it to induce sperm production and egg deposition in Spea bombifrons that were kept in a 74 degree facility all winter and need to breed now. it is injected into the dorsal lymph sacs and although the male will amplex within 15 mins it took about 6 hours for me to notice decent amounts of sperm in their urine.

I work in a lab that studies Spea bombifrons and Spea multiplicata and we are interested in using LHRH for spawning purposes, we have used LHRH as part of mate choice tests before only. It appears that LHRHa is a hazard from the MSDS and we are trying to avoid having hazardous materials in the lab and the additional steps that come along with that and plan on starting to use LHRH soon. Do you have any information on priming and dosage using LHRH for S. bombifrons?

    with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

    Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

    Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
