I don't know why we went down for that period. I was out of town all day so I don't know how long we were down either. I've requested a report from the ISP and I will keep you informed as I learn more.

The site when down sometime between 8:20 am (when I got an automated e-mail from the site) and 10:20 am (when I first tried to get to the site).

The provider is claiming we're using too much of the server's CPU resources. My own opinion on this is that we had no problems of this nature for about a year, until the downtime earlier in the weekend. I then made drastic changes that reduced our CPU usage considerably. Today's incident was them turning us off again (this time with no email saying they had done it). One of the system administrators let slip that there's another client sharing these resources and that client's software is greedy. Since we haven't changed anything significant in many months and I cut our overheads so much earlier in the weekend, and our userbase is actually relatively stable right now, I am forced to conclude that the provider is trying squeeze more clients onto this server than is fair (they really aren't supposed to be doing that since our plan is considered superior to virtual hosting but not "dedicated"). Until this malarkey I had nothing but good things to say about the provider (inmotionhosting.com) but now I'm starting to think it's time to move on again and upgrade - as a rule I don't upgrade twice with a provider who would dick us around by turning off our server and then not notify me. We've been customers of this company for over 2 years now. Unfortunately I don't think it would be wise to engage in anything less than a dedicated server from now on. A decent low end one of those will triple the hosting cost per month though.

Following some recommendations from vBulletin I've made some hosting inquiries with a company that specialises in hosting large vbulletin forums. I will let you know as soon as I know more.

Well the current ISP obviously thought my threats were realistic and they moved us to another server. I am already noticing how snappy the site is. We've still got about 2 months left in this billing period to evaluate the new service. In the mean time I'm still in contact with that other service provider in case things don't work out.

The migration actually didn't take place so this drama isn't over yet...

John, have a look at the Chat function.
I have a suspicion FlashChat may be the cause. It has been acting a bit "wonky" (technical term) for about a week.
I have noticed significant drops in performance of the site when folks were in chat.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
