I found this forum after acquiring a salamander. I posted for care advice and received a response within 6 hours. All the advice was accurate timely and members have followed up with my additional questions. I am thoroughly impressed.

Enough about how great this site is and a little about myself. I have lived in Texas all my life and grew up tromping through the woods and swimming in the lake near my home. It was a great environment to encounter wildlife. I had the pleasure to observe foxes, bobcats, snakes, and on one occasion ride my bike down a trail with a very large owl flying overhead. I once found a dead salamander in the lake that was about 9 inches long and had gills like the aquatic species on here. Lately I have studied at various colleges across Texas and started a wonderful family. I am married with two kids and am trying to finish my degree in engineering as soon as possible. I have been browsing this site extensively after finding the A. Texanum and am really interested in the Ambystomatidae species and the various crested newts. I would be very interested in trying to breed some species and I may have found a lifelong hobby to replace my less productive diversions of the past. At the moment however I will not be taking on any more animals until I settle down in a permanet home.

Welcome!

There's nothing quite like the pleasure of encountering wildlife in their own domain.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
