I have 2 Axolotls I just adopted from a close friend. My friend noticed that these 2 Axolotls didn't use their back legs. One of the individuals has a real bad deformity of the legs. Its legs are growing crossing each other. Its good that these guys still have use of their front limbs, and all their other senses seem to be there. Don't fret these guys eat like monsters and seem to be very healthy. These guys are special and very keen. I want to show everyone that even if an Axolotl has a defect it can still overcome it. Here are the pics!

I bought a bunch of terribly inbred axolotls that had legs like that from a breeder in Chicago. Surprisingly, even though the females' legs crossed over their cloacas, they were still able to pick up spermatophore, but then laid eggs in clumps on their feet!

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
