Is it okay for my axie to have forward gills when I'm changing the water? There is quite a bit more movement around him, but I try to not move the water as much as possible. I'm still new to axies and I know this is a sign of stress. My axie is still new and I'm doing about 20% (or less) changes every day for my water while it cycles. Since I've done this for about two weeks, I'm going to change the water changes to every other day. I just wanted to make sure that a stressed axie is normal while it's still adjusting, I just don't want to make any mistakes. Thanks for the help in advance!

Yes, excessive water currents and movement during water changes can stress an axie. However, they will also quickly settle down after everything is done. It is quite normal and expected.

I think I must have the laziest, stress free axie ever! When I'm siphoning the water out with the vacuum, which creates quite a stir in the water, he doesn't panic at all! He'd rather chase the siphon, and my fingers!

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
