Cut tail!!! HELP!!

Hello guys,
my axy seem to have a nick in his tail?

Im not totally sure if he already had it when i got him ( Sunday)
but i have checked the tank, and there is nothing he could have done it on.

It seems to have got wider over the last week.
it looks clean, and theres no sign of infection? but do you have any advice?
im thinking about taking him to the vets, but i really done want to stress him out. hes only been here a few days and wisking him off to the vets would only stress him i think:confused::confused:

any advice would be helpful!!

If your water conditions and temperature are OK a nick in the tail will usually heal without problems. If your tank is not yet cycled keep up the 20% daily water changes!

Sometimes nicks heal without trace but some heal leaving a ripple in the tail but unless it looks infected I would not worry too much.

    with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

    Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

    Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
