Heya!

For one month now I got 2 axies and I really love em both. I got em when they were just 2 months old, just about 3~4cm they were back then.

They're growing good and they look very healthy. But is it normal that they grow at different speed? One of them is growing so fast, but the other kinda stays a bit behind. The big one already has fullgrown legs and is about 7~8cm now, whilst the other is maybe at 5cm and only has little legs (they're growing, I see em, but comparing to the big one they're very small).

Is this normal? At the moment I feed em red musquito larvae and brine shrimp (to make sure the little one eats good as well).

Yes this is normal, just like how human kids grow at different rates. Are they two different color types?

Thanks for the quick reply. So, I've got nothing to worry about then. :)

They're both wild types so no different colors.. :)

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
