How do you tell the approximate age of an axolotl? I had a bit of a seach (on here, and on Google), but I can't really seem to find any information! My girl is about 8 inches long, so I know she's not fully grown ... are there any other signs I can look for to tell her age? Guess I'm just curious

I would say between 6 months and 1 year, another good indication (for females) is the clear ends on their toes.

She could be fully grown at 8" - I have some Albinos that I've had over a year; around 7-8" and they haven't grown. ...all my others are around 9-10".

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
