Have been a fan of Axolotls for years and years. Was always the sort of child that always had stray animals around as well as the usual tortoises and small animals LOL, and now have fish, various stick insects and snails amongst other things ... and newts in the pond which love worms (yes, the neighbours think I'm mad ).

My two Axolotls are watching me type ... one is a speckled brown and the other leucistic (it's head seems to be just turning that nice grey blue colour) - don't know if they're male or female yet (although the temptation to call the 'pink' one 'her' is huge LOL) and they haven't got names ... unless you count Pink and Brown.

Has anyone else developed the pastime of making special worm areas and hunting the garden in the dark for small wriggly offerings? LOL

Hi! I'm Linda, and i just got an axolotl on Monday, and the pet store wasn't very informative on care. I've checked out websites, but what i am interested in is how often to feed him (well, i think it's a him :-S) and can they see? I'm grateful for any advise, thanks!

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
