I am a new member , but old to keeping pets. I care for spade foot toads, 1 firebelly toad,2 giant pacific salamanders, 3 northern long toed salamanders, 5 African clawed frogs, 10 box turtles, 5 red ear sliders , and I also keep tropical fish and native fish in 8 fifty gallon aquariums. I breed koi in some of my 6 outside ponds and I am adding hundreds if not thousands of spade foot toads incidental to the koi hatching operation to my rural location. The giant pacific salamanders and northern longtoed salamanders live in the basement fishroom which is cooler. I also raise tumbling highflying pigeons. I enjoy the variety of life on our planet and I believe that it is really ok to care for non endangered interesting species. My hobby is my own personal zoo. I enjoy reading about other amphibian keepers and I guess that is why I joined this club.

Welcome to the forum. That definitely is one heck of a zoo you got going there.:D

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
