Hi, I'm Terri, I brought my first Axolotl two weeks ago his name is Francis  he's an adult as far as i can tell and very lovely. (Embaressingly i'm not sure of his colour.)
I live in rural Australia on a property and have 3 horses and an extra i'm horse-sitting for a friend, also 2 dogs, 2 cats and 4 chooks, all animals are my passion. I'm new to caring for Francis and his tank and I did loads of research before i brought him and have wanted an axolotl since I was young so it's all very new and exciting. Any info and advice is most welcome.

Welcome, Terri and Francis!

If you post a photo of him, we would be more than happy to help you identify the colour type.

Thank you. I'll deffinatly post a photo of him. Is there a specific place I should post photos?

Hello fellow Aussie!

Congrats on your first axie. I promise this will develop into a lifelong affair. My advise is to monitor your water quality, as it will differ from state to state..Vic has hard water, NSW soft water etc. Get the best filter you can afford and get your food source sorted. Mine are on walker pellets and earthworms.

You will have all the support and help you need in this group :blob:

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
