Hi my name's Catrin and I started keeping newts in May after a few were offloaded onto me! But I think I may have got a little obsessed now ha ha! This website has been really helpful so I can better understand how to care for my newts
I have Alpine newts although I'm unsure of they're subspecies, I also learnt too late that they are good escape artists and unfortunately lost my male :( But me and Tina are doing well as far as I can tell and maybe in the future when I'm sure of her subspecies I'll get her a friend.
I'm also working on my tank after seeing many designs on here anything that will make it a little more interesting for her!

Welcome to the addiction!

Can you post pictures of the newts to better help us identify it? Also this care sheet on Mesotriton alpestris may be able to help you out.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
