I noticed yesterday whilst observing my little Sunny for any cuts or fungus and any other nasties which I do every morning and something caught my eye, and when I focused on it, I saw that it was a mosquito larvae wriggler, which was quickly snapped up by a fungus and cut free axolotl, hehe.

Today though, I noticed there are quite a few of them, which he keeps eating.

Is this ok? I will make sure it doesn't get to a high population, but I gather one mosquito has laid quite a few eggs, is it ok to let him eat them and them be in there? or wll they encourage nasties into my babys tank?

Thanks in advance
Blaze.

I think it will be fine for your axolotl to eat them. I fed my larvae these too. However these were collected from various containers out doors. If your axolotl doesn't eat all the wrigglers in the tank you may soon be bombarded by small biting insects, so I would personally put a fine screen over your tank.

Will do =]

There acually isn't mosquitos in the house, so I was rather confused when I saw them in there haha

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
