I am also new to this. I mostly deal with fish but I ran across a picture of an Axolotl the other day and could not help but to read up on them since are so cute. I am interested in maybe getting one or two depending on when I get a setup.

I can't wait to talk to some of ya'll!

Thanks,
Kimberly

Howdy Kimberly and welcome to the forum! I think you should be aware that axolotls can be quite addicting...one invariably leads to two, then three, then.....

You've definitely come to the right place to learn everything you need to know to get started. There are lots of really knowledgeable people here that can also provide additional information (they can be real lifesavers ;)) to the amazing resources around this site.

Again, welcome to the forum and please keep us posted once you finally aqcuire your new friend

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
