I am new to this site, but not to salamanders. I am a senior in high school and plan on going to school in the aims of becoming a zoo keeper. I have kept of 80 different species of animals (not including fish and inverts.). I currently have red eared sliders, spotted salamanders, eastern newts, a bearded dragon, hinge back tortoise, leopard gecko, fire bellied toads, birds, dogs, and many other animals.

It sounds like you are a zookeeper already! Welcome.

How do you have time for that many animals while your in school? I dont have near that many and with homework, my animals, watching some TV, my nights are filled.

AJ, it's amazing what you could get done of you cut out the TV.;)

Yea, i also have worked with many other types of animals including Asian elephants, orangutans, lions, hyenas, hippos, lemurs, and monkeys just to name a few. I have no free time!!! I also do crew (rowing) and i am a coxswain, so i am either at practice at 5.45 in the morning before school or at practice till 6 pm after school!!!!

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
