Hi guys,

Just bought my first axolotl today - extremely excited! However, it keeps "standing up" and not moving...it stands on its 2 hind legs but does not rise to the surface..it just freezes and doesnt move.

Is it just adjusting to its new surroundings or should i be worried?

Thanks!

Hi!

Absolutely no reason to worry. They do all sorts of strange things and will rest in any position possible due to their laziness.

I found mr Axie this morning almost upside down on a plant, tail at the top and head to the bottom of the tank!

Hello,
My axy often "stands up" like that when he is looking for food.
enjoy your new axy.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
