Hi folks,

i have been keeping 3 P.Chinesis for almost 2 months now.

i have noticed that p.chinesis digestive system seems quite slow.
for example, they will eat earthworms daily. a large worm, 3inch a single day.
two of them looked quite pumped up with daily feeding. but they still continue to take the worms nonetheless.
but they take ages , 3-4 days to make a big poo.

is this normal or something is wrong in their gut?

is feeding everyday bad for them or health in general?

thanks

An earthworm contains a lot of water - it is less food than it looks like. What you observe seems normal to me.

If they are recent imports, it may take some time for them to fatten up. At some point in the future, they may need less food. Until then, there is nothing wrong with daily feedings.

Dear Jen,

thanks for info. nice to know they are doing normal.

btw my smaller newt 1/2 inch smaller, become ultra aggressive these days. biting the tail of the 2 larger newts.

i now think he's the alpha male.

i added another large Bog wood and 2 more plastic plants. and biting is less.

any ideas and encounters of smaller newt bullying bigger newts?

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
