Hi I'm new to the forums and i am considering getting a tiger salamander or two
i have a couple of questions about them and their housing

1.I have a 10 gallon tank that i have started setting up for a new pet would that be big enough for a tiger salamander?

2.If the 10 gallon is enough could i have a waterfall with a small pool of water ( would probably be 1 or 2 inches deep)

3.How deep does the ground need to be for them to burrow as i have read that they enjoy doing so

4.How long could i keep the tiger salamander in the 10 gallon tank

5.Is it even possible that if i get 2 tiger's of opposite sex that they will ever breed

i have a 55 gallon tank that I'm going to set up later down the road but don't have room or a stand to put it up yet

Thanks

1. yes
2. not in a tank that small - would be Ok in the 55-gallon, where you have more space to work with
3. at least 2 inches, preferably more
4. indefinitely
5. no, not unless you make them an outdoor setup

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
