Hi all.
I have a 15gallon tank that I'm setting up for a juvenile pair of S.s.gallaica, and would like to have live plants, for lighting I was wanting a fluerescent strip light and a Red light. The red light would be for night time viewing, and the fluerescent strip light for plants. I have a few questions:
1.Will this lighting fixture be too hot for the salamander?
2.How much wattage would be sufficient for some Portuguese plants that will fluorish with a fire salamander?
3.What are some plants that are from portugal and will be OK with a fire salamander?

If the red light is an incandescent bulb and you do not have proper tank ventilation it will be to warm.
Wattage has no effect on plants. A standard aquarium/plant light will be fine.

As for Portugese plants, Google is your best friend. (Thats how I research things in my pets natural environment)

Hmmmmmmmmmmmm......
Now that I think about, I think it would be better if I used naturalistic plastic plants-no lighting necessary, sturdy, easily cleaned, etc. I don't think I will be using the Red bulb if it is too hot. I'll save for like an anole or something...
Thanks for the help.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
