Greetings,

I have been visiting Caudata for a while and it is time for an introduction.

I am Jose in South Carolina. I keep Ambystomatidae, several species of Ambystoma, many of them acquired through Amphibian Aquatics and now my "neighbor", Peter Lembcke, whom I highly recommend as a source of knowledge and of captive-bred and captive hatched salamanders. A true gentleman and scholar. I am mostly interested in terrestrial species and for now, my focus is on Ambystoma although I am also very much interested in learning about other species of caudates.

As a starting point, I have just finished a book review that I am about to post as my modest contribution to this forum.

Jose

Welcome to the forum Jose. After reading your review, which can be found here, I am definitely going to go out and get this book.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
