Hello everyone!

As I am to worried about Guppies nipping at Sunnys gills, I was wondering about Ghost Shrimp.

He used to be fed them at the pet shop so I understand how quickly they'll go but honestly, at $2 each, it's worth the enjoyment me and Sunny will get out of it!

My problem is, I saw that they have small nippers (claws basically). Will it try and nip at Sunny at all?
I won't have anything that could possibly cause issues to him. I will be quarenteening the little shrimp. What do they eat? haha

Thanks in advance,
Blaze

Greetings from The Midwest(Illinois),

I keep ghost shrimp with my Axolotls, they dont seem to be bothered by them. Its not in their nature to be agressive. They are bottom feeders they eat left over food, algea, flakes and pallets. Ghost shrimp are ok, i prefer Cherry shrimp they are easy to keep and breed nicely in most water conditions. I bought abut a dozen(Ghost) a month ago, i still have about 4 left. I wouldn't make them the main diet source, still feed them earth worms. My axolotls starve if i dont feed them worms in about a weeks, i found one of them munching on my floating plats even though it had shrimp in its tank.

Good luck, hope i was of some help.

Thanks for that!
Not using them as a main source don't worry, just like to keep it different. He gets mainly pellets, then if I can find worms outside he gets those then he has some beef heart and bloodworms but those two are rarely (once a fortnight). The shrimp would be good fun, I was only going to start with one because I don't want it breeding lol.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
