This is my friends, I have been watching "him" for her while she is out of state. "he" came to me with a small lump above "his" eye which was grown worse. I have no idea what it is nor do I have any idea of a vet to go to for treatment. "He" is eating well and acting normal otherwise.

=O
omg!
Let's see what the others have to say but,
I think it might need to be fridged and maybe a salt bath for 6 mins.
But wait for more opinions.

Looks like a necrotising type of abscess. I would be wary of mycobacteria. Please do not handle with bare hands.

You would need to bring it to a vet immediately for antibiotic therapy. The animal has to be isolated away from others from now on.

Fridging will be helpful.

I tried for about 10 mins to get a good shot before I picked him up. How do you do the fridge thing? How long does it take for a necrotizing type of abscess to grow? I've had him (and two others, who look great) for about 8 months.

EDIT

I found a great link about Fridging so I will get to doing that now

I sugest doing a water change in the tank where the other axolotls are,
to help decrease the chance of infecting the other axolotls.
For now, keep the infected one in a separate tank until he fully recovers.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
