Hi I was wondering if the bigger baby axies get larger than the smaller ones or if they all get to be about the same size eventually?

Normally the biggest and fittest survive. Runts may fail to thrive or are poorly in constitution. Those that do grow to adulthood still do tend to be weaker or smaller than the rest.

My runts that have made it to maturity are usually half the size (5" tops).

I got a gold that was half the size of my two others (who were still juveniles)
He has not only caught up with my big two he may actually be slightly bigger than them, they are all around 18cms/7 inch (at nearly 9 months old) and still growing.
My advice is feed them well and watch them grow.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
