Greetings!

My name is Maximilian (Max), I am 17 years old and I live in Merida, Yucatan, Mexico. I've always being fascinated by all kinds of animals, and I find salamanders to be some of the coolest creatures around ! Unfortunately, here in the state of Yucatan we only have two species of salamanders, one of which is located only in a small area about 3 hours away from where I live (by car) which is the Mexican Mushroomtongue Salamander (Bolitoglossa mexicana), and there's another one, the Yucatan Mushroomtongue Salamander, which I find quite fascinating! I've only been able to find two of them throughout my whole life, and I do look for them. Most people I know around here don't even know that there are salamanders in Yucatan :) And well, in some sort this makes it fun, since they are rare and hard to find, and therefore exciting. Yet, the lack of different species is kind of sad :( Perhaps there are more which haven't been discovered, tho ;)

Anyway! There's not a lot of info that I could aport about salamanders, since well, we don't have many around here... But I'll try to use this forum to learn more and to share some of my knowledge about this fascinating creatures :D

The first time I found the B. yucatana was last summer, and I didn't have my camera on me! So I had been looking for another one since, and last Dec. 2nd I was finally able to find it :) Here are some of the pics:

¡Me encanta su pasión! Las fotos son muy bonitas, gracias para compartirlas. Ojala que usted encuentre más en el medio ambiente en el Yucatán.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
