Ever since I got this one, I've been using tubifex worms as a staple diet.
I was just reading the Axolotl page again and it says tubifex worms are high on fat.
And my axolotl has been eating them everyday for a month! I'm getting him those
"hikiri carnivore pellets" tomorrow as a staple diet and the tubifex worms as treats.
But I was just wondering, will my little guy be ok?

Also here's a picture of my female albino axolotl which eats earthworms as a staple diet.

And my baby wild type who eats tubifex worms everyday.

I don't think feeding them to it for only a month would cause any serious issues in regards to the high fat content. What bothers me most about tubifex worms however is the risk of a bacterial disease transmission due to the fact that most, maybe even all, of the worms are harvested from sediment areas downstream from sewage outtakes

That's a good point, which reminds me that the South Carolina unknown sewer life form was
a ball of tubifexs.

Check this video out about tubifex.

Blackworms will be a better option.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
