Welcome Aboard!

You have come to the right place for information!

Please have a look at the Forum Rules and Terms of Service and then check out The Axolotl Site, Caudata Culture and The Axolotl Sanctuary sites. They have quite a bit of information for the beginner and experienced axolotl keeper compiled and written by members of the organization here.

Also have a go at the forums search function. There is close to a decade of information there that you will be hard pressed to find anywhere else.

Your family has my condolences. The axolotl addiction is nearly impossible to kick!:p

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
