Hi all,

First of all Merry Xmas and Happy New Year to all.

As title says my axy has started changing colour along with his/her growth. He/she was a leucistic type when i got him/her at easter. It started with the head going black now its travelling along the back. Due to an unforseen accident my camera has gone to heaven so cannot post pics right now (maybe after xmas depending on what santa brings ).

Could this simply be one of his/her parents was "wild" type, and this is now coming through being the dominant gene.

Has anyone experienced this before, as my axy looks cool with the two colours through it.

Leucistics sometimes have freckles on their faces and there are quite a few through the forums that show this. If you have a look around there are some with more deeply pigmented faces and this sometimes extends down the back.

How old is your axie now? I noticed as my juveniles got bigger their 'freckles' became more noticable.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
