I was hoping that somebody could help me identify some snails that I found hanging out on the side of my tank. I am assuming that they must've hitched a ride with the elodea that I bought recently, or perhaps the river shrimp that I, very ashamedly, forgot to quarantine. They are very tiny - perhaps only 2-3mm but I tried my best to snap photos of them and produced these with some difficulty. I removed the snails straight away as I don't want anything in there with my precious axolotl unless I know exactly what it is and I hear that snails can harbor parasites and other nasties. I also know that, seeing as they're hermaphrodites and hard to spot, I'll be very likely to see them again soon. It would be nice if I knew whether to remove them on spot or let them be in their inevitable return.

I too acquired snails in my tank..hitchhikers off a plant. You could pick them off as and when you see them, but i don't...I leave it to the axolotl. My adults will happily dine on them as and when they notice them.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
