My name is Erika and for as long as I can remember I've loved amphibians and reptiles. When I was younger my dad used to breed snakes and leopard geckos. We've kept many different types of reptiles and amphibians as pets over the years, including frogs, turtles, chameleons, bearded dragons, newts, anoles. Currently we have a ball python, a blue tongue skink, and a soft shell turltle that I rescued from my school's track (he's missing a foot but is doing quite well now).
The reason I made an account on here is because I recently became extremely interested in axolotls. I wanted one for Christmas, but my dad and I had a hard time finding one. None of the local shops even knew what they were. I didn't know where to find one, so just decided to do a search, and axolotl.org sent me here. Hopefully I can find everything I need and all the information I need here.

Welcome! yes there is, and many breeders here too.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
