After reading through threads on here i am worried im not feeding my axies enough.

They get one large worm each every two days, doesn't sound much to some but my axies have nice plump bellies!

Is it okay to only feed this much? Or do they need more

Most people say to feed them as much as they will eat in like 15 mins, adult axies are good about over eating, and if they do, they tend to reject it.

and in my opinion, that does not seem like enough for adult axies. perhaps pics would provide more info..either of them (the axies) or the size of the worm you are feeding.

You are not alone about worrying if you are feeding them enough.
My guys tend to let me know when they need feeding. Their tank is now upstairs on the main landing and they make it very clear when they are hungry..when they are not, I barely see them:(, At the moment , as it is cooler they are being fed maybe twice a week ( they are all mature males). As the weather is dire at the moment they are being fed pellets, otherwise its a good sized earthworm cut in half each. I tend to follow the 'rule' that an axolotl stomach should be a similar size to its head.

The method I use to tell whether an axolotl is over- or underweight is to look at its front legs. Since bellies can be round or slender, I find plump or skinny legs a better indicator. If they are thin, feed more; if they are fat, feed less.

What happens if you axolotl has one fat leg and one skinny one HAHA poor Sunny.

My method is,

When Sunny poos, he gets two more worms. Works out well I find =]

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
