Ever since Christmas day, my axolotl has been sitting at the bottom of the tank on her side. I was feeding her lean beef because that is what it was eating prior to my acquisition of her. About a week after Christmas (and her problems) I started feeding her bloodworms. She eats about a few a day. I have been doing 20% daily water change. I don’t know the water temp since I don’t have a thermometer but I have been keeping her on a large window sill (It is winter here in Western New York and it is cold outside). She is approximately 3.5cm long and is still a juvenile.

I took her to the only vet that knew what an axolotl was and she took it out and massaged and found no air bubble or anything visually wrong. The next day after the vet however, she is now floating and still on her side. She attacks her food and eats upside down. She maintains a healthy appetite however. I haven’t tried to refrigerate her yet because I wasn’t sure how long to do it for. What should I do? Keiko (my Axie) and I thank you in advance for your help!!

Bloodworms are not a suitable staple diet. You should feed your axie earthworms, with bloodworms as the occasional treat.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
