Hello I just joined this forum hoping to get some information on possibly getting a few Axolotls. A little about me first...

My name is Tiffany, I live in Northern Illinois with my husband Tim. We have several pets currently which include 4 cats, 3 rats, 1 mouse, 2 dwarf hamsters, 3 parakeets, 3 Betta's, 8 ghost shrimp and 2 African clawed frogs.
As you can tell we are definitely animal lovers! Tim is an OTR truck driver and I am a housewife so I devote all my time to taking care of the house, my babies(animals), and my husband when he is home.

Well I guess that's it for now, if you have any questions feel free to ask I'm pretty darn open about things.
I hope to get some good information on keeping Axolotls as pets and hopefully where I can get some from as I've never seen them in any pet store or anything of that sort.

Tiff

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
