I cannot help but notice all of you guys seem to have crystal clear water. I am not blessed with this.
The water in my tank is not disgusting, but is by no means clear. It is a big tank, but if you look from one end to the other (long ways) you cannot see. It is just a bit murky.
I have tried regular water changed, plants, filters, everything. I cut down on their feeding, fished it out, etc.

Any tips you can give me to maintain clear water¿
What do you guys do¿

How long has your tank been set up, what do you have in it and finally is it in direct sunlight?

I think it needs to be said that clear, pristine water is not the same as quality water....
If your water is slightly murky but all the parametres are alright, i wouldn´t worry ....yes, clear water looks nice, but it ain´t all it´s cracked up to be xD

It definitely could be an issue with suspended algae, in which case increasing plants and less sun/lights will help.

If you have sand at the bottom that wasn't quite washed all the way then it can get kicked up as well...

I cheat. I only take pictures right after a good scrubbing and a water change.

In practice my tanks look horrible most of the time. I do not scrape brown algae much at all. Some of the tanks are downright murky, or even yellowish or green! As long as my water chemistry tests out OK, I only spit-shine the tanks for company or photos

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
