Hi everyone,
A quick question: I have a fairly elderly, and seemingly healthy and normal female T. Gran., who has recently begun to develop brown blotches on her stomach. It looks as if the colour on her back has "bled" into her yellow. She seems normal, otherwise. Eating, doing her newt stuff. She is getting on in years...I have had her for about 8, and she was full grown when I rescued her, so who knows how old she really is. SHe's a great little gal, and I'm hoping this isn't something to worry about. I've had numerous newts & axies over the years, and never seen anything like this before. Any advice/help would be appreciated.
Thanks!

i've never seen anything like that happen in caudates before but one of the frog species starts to change belly colour and get blotches at the slightest change in water chemistry, completely unrelated of course , but how is the water she's in ?

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
