Hi all! :errr:

My name is Natalie, I am from Illinois. I'm pretty new to both newts and salamanders, so please pardon my ignorance! I had some fire belly newts growing up and I loved them! Recently I've been putting together a terrerium and been looking for some good information on newts or salamanders that would enjoy living in it! So... that is why I am here :)

Looking forward to learning from you all!
Thanks
Natalie~

Welcome to the forum Natalie. Any ideas yet on what in particular your looking for?

Well, my tank is half water and half land. Most of the species I have looked up so far have been either more aquatic or more terrestrial. Some friends of mine suggested frogs... however I don't know if I could stand the croaking  Kinda just looking a newt/salamander that would enjoy both aspects of the tank.

Welocme to caudata! I know there are a few newts that can do half/land half/water, I know firebelly needs more water than land, but hopefully another member will be able to help you out as I can't remember them:p

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
