Hello everyone,

My name is Gina, I am from DFW Texas. This past weekend I bought a couple of water dogs from the bait shop where I get my worms. I thought it would be interesting to watch them grow into salamanders. I am here looking for some care information so I can give them the best of what they might need. Currently I also have a couple of African Clawed frogs and in the future I am wanting to get a few fire belly newts. I originally started out in fish keeping and I am now starting to branch out into other critters. My personal zoo includes 6 dogs, several larger aquariums with Oscars and other SA Cichlids and a few smaller tanks, two female RES turtles, 2 male African Clawed frogs and now my two new water dogs. I look forward to meeting people here and learning about my newest additions.

Welcome! Water Dogs, I believe, grow into tiger Salamanders-tigers get big (12") and have a big appetite, too! I blieve they are almost completetly terrestrial when adult, too.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
