Feeding question

So I have two adult axies and was just wondering about feeding. I know that feeding them like twice a week is the normal right? So that's what I've been doing, but I know you don't want their body to get bigger then their head right? So mine haven't eaten for about a week, but they almost look too fat to feed again just yet. I also know that they can go a long time without eating, so I'm not worried. But I was just wondering if I should only feed them once a week, or just when they look like they aren't fat enough, or stick to two times a week? Thanks!

(In case your wondering: no gravel, their not bloated, and they are both females.)

I let my axolotl's body size dictate how often they are fed. For the most part, my axolotls are fed twice a week. If I notice their belly getting wider than their head then I back off either the amount they are fed at one sitting or the frequency of the feedings. If they start to look a little skinnier than i like then I increase the amount of feedings.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
