I was at the local fish store today and they were selling cute 1 1/2in long "glowing axolotls" for $35. they looked clear with some darker spots. the pupils were green and almost glowing. i guess the clear body glows green under a black light. i almost bought one but i thought this might be a cruel trick. do they really glow and keep glowing for the rest of their life or is it like those fish that get injections of color that fade after time. also this seems like animal cruelty to alter them in such a way. what do you think?

It's a trait that has been bred and some axolotls carry. Not harmful, just a protein they carry. Search Green Florescent Pigment on Google.

well i found a whole bunch of stuff on GFP axolotls now. time to make some room. i definitely want one. my boyfriend says axolotls are like pokemon "i gotta catch em all" :D

side note: i used a black light to see if my axolotls glow and the golden albinos underbelly glows orange.

A Black Light is a UV lamp which emits ultraviolet light in a particular range.
You can get them at hardware stores, and a lot of aquarium shops carry them as well.
Mind you, only the GFP Axolotls will really glow green under such a light, since they have been modified to carry the protein.

3 legs and part of it's tail are bitten off plus it's thin. i hate pet stores! i can't believe i worked for one.
