I'm not in the states so won't be much help but have you tried looking for breeders in your area via the web? Or you can try putting a wanted advert somewhere, do you guys have the gumtree website in the states? I put adverts on gumtree and reptile classifieds inititally - i didn't have much luck in my area but then i'm in a small city in scotland!

I also contacted a couple of animal shelters/recues to see if they had on the off chance any up for adoption - its always worth trying these things if you cannae find a website...

Hi Tyler,

Welcome! I know what you mean about salamanders being hard to find! There is a For Sale section right here, just go to the Forum Index (gray bar above) and scroll down, it's near the bottom. There is also a Wanted section where you can tell everyone exactly what you are looking for.

You may want to check out kingsnake.com - the information portal for reptile and amphibian hobbyists.. Kingsnake has a huge classified section, adoption area, and there is even a listing of upcoming reptile shows so you can find out if one is coming to your area! That's where I started my obsession! Caudata can help you find out how to take care of whatever salamander you decide to get! Happy hunting! ;)

Welcome, from another Tyler. As dragonlady said, you can find quite a bit of breeders here.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
