Good Morning everyone!

Obviously I'm new, or I wouldn't be posting on here! My name is Veronica, but everyone except my Mum and Dad (!) call me V'. I am married with 2 small children, my son Talen will be 3 years old in a few days, and my daughter Yaska will be 1 next month. My husband ownes and runs a Bird of Prey Centre, so inbetween bringing up our children and doing the house-work, I also like to spend time with the birds. I have my own Flying Team which consists of a couple of Owls, a few Falcons, a Hawk and my pride and joy - Rags my Bateleur (African Snake Eagle).

I have kept many pets over the years (please understand that I do not count my Birds as pets ) but this is the first time I have set out to keep Amphibians. I currently have a Chinese Fire Bellied Newt, yes just the one due to illness :( which I have been told is an unfortunate regularity with pet shop bought Newts - but I won't go into that now.... I do however have some more on order from a different pet shop, so I'll just have to wait and see how that turns out...

I have plans for another 2 tanks, what I'm planning to house in these I don't yet know! but I'm open to any suggestions! I then definitely want to get a tank to house a tree frog in, again what sort of frog I haven't made up my mind yet. I've got a few that I quite like. Naturally being a beginner I don't want anything too specialised.

I look forward to chatting with some of you, and draining you all of your advice!! :D I also hope that in time I will be able to help other 'newbies'.

Welcome aboard, 'V'! ;)

I envy you. I simply love birds of prey - they are magnificient. I positively gush when I see an Australian hawk, or eagle, in flight (a rare sight these days ).

Hi there,

Thanks! What is the Australian Hawk? So many places around the world give 'nicknames' to Birds of Prey, and it can make it difficult to work out which bird they are talking about! However it makes no odds which bird you are talking about, because all Birds of Prey are simply stunning to watch!

Anyway, shouldn't really talk about the birds on this website! I've been advised to come over here as I've been having trouble with my Chinese Fire Bellied Newts :(. I have posted about them, so I hope some one will be able to help!

Thanks for my welcome

V'

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
