Hi,

My name is Christen and I live in the Hudson Valley in NY. I have just recently been introduced to axolotl through a lab course and have started looking into rearing some of my own. I will have my B.S. in Biology in about a month. My husband and I currently have 2 chinese shar pei dogs and a leopard gecko I've had for the past 10 years. This site looks very helpful and informative and I am excited to start speaking with everyone in the forums.

Welcome to the forum. Do you people live closer to Rip Van Winkle or Ichabod Crane? White Plains will be a party. I talked to Alfred Ojeda. He said he is bringing a bunch of salamanders too.

Thanks for the great welcome! I live in Chester and yes I have heard about the reptile show but I don't know if I will be able to make it up there since it is on a Sunday, do you know what time it starts? I am going to do my best to take my husband with me since he has never gone to one before and I know he will love it! It was great to meet you all, I can't believe you live in Wappingers, what a small world.
I hope we get to meet at the show...I will look for the otter setup ; )

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
