I got some Axies this past week. 3 of them stayed with me and the rest went to their new homes.

How often do people normally feel them?

Feeding frozen bloodworms and brine shrimp currently?

Are newt / salamander bites any good for them? or what else can I add to give them a variety?

How big are they, anything less than adult needs to be fed daily.

You can try daphnia if they are still small axies.
If they are larger earthworms are great for them.

Hey PC!

You got them, yay! :D These are about 3" from Shoegal, right? Here's a link that might help: Caudata Culture Articles - Foods

As Mel said, they do need to be fed daily, whatever they will consume in 15 min. - trial and error. If you try Mel's earthworm suggestion, they will need to be cut up a bit first. I have some about this size and they eat frozen bloodworms, sinking salmon pellets 3mm from Edsflymeat.com, and I also buy them red wigglers from PetsMart. I'm so happy for you! Looking forward to pics!

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
