How old is your new one, Jackie? If full grown, looks like a female to me. Cool colors too, love to see the rest of "her"!

How old is it? But its toe tips APPEAR darkened, which indicates maturity..in which case I believe it is female.

Most likely female, but there's no way to be 100% sure.

I will ask,I just was so excited I didnt think of asking,

she/he is about 6 inches long and quite round, the others that she was with were the same size but they all had very swollen and large cloacals.I picked this one because she was the most active and the prettiest.

he/she doesnt have dark tips to her toes and fingers, they are lighter

I will ask the shop, didnt think to,just was concentrating on choosing a healthy one,he/she is about 6 inches long, quite round and the tips of the toes are lighter than the rest of her

In dark axolotls the toe tips lighten at sexual maturity, i believe.

I would say possibly too young to sex just yet.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
